Metabolically healthy obesity and lipids may be protective factors for pathological changes of alzheimer’s disease in cognitively normal adults

The associations between obesity and Alzheimer's disease (AD) at different ages have been debated. Recent evidence implied the protective effects of metabolically healthy on AD. We hypothesized that lipids could mitigate detrimental impacts AD pathological changes among individuals in late life. In this study, a total 604 participants with normal cognition were included from Chinese Biomarker LifestylE (CABLE) database. Multiple linear regression models used to test body mass index (BMI) or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers after adjustment for age, gender, education, Apolipoprotein E-ɛ4 (APOE-ɛ4). results showed lower CSF levels tau protein (t-tau: p = .0048) phosphorylated (p-tau: .0035) obese than non-obese participants, even correcting covariates. Moreover life, higher BMI was associated decreased t-tau (β: −0.15, .0145) p-tau −0.17, .0052). As lipids, cholesterol (TC) low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) (TC: β: −0.16, .0115; LDL-C: .0082) .0177; −0.14, .0225) participants. Furthermore, these only significant late-life APOE-ɛ4 non-carriers. Overall, cognitively population, we found life might be factors neurodegenerative changes.
